Lesson Twelve:
Glow Effect

Glow

To select the glow effect, click on the drop down box by selecting the arrow next to "None." You will see a series of options:

Choose "shadow and glow" -- you will then have the option of choosing a glow or inner glow. Selecting glow creates a glow effect around the object. Selecting inner glow creates a glow inside the object.

Once you have selected glow or inner glow, you will have additional options:

  • Width -- changes the width of the glow; default is 5.
  • Color -- changes the color of the glow; in the example to the right, the color of the glow is set to red.
  • Opacity -- changes the transparency of the glow; the lower the number, the greater the transparency. The default setting is 65%
  • Softness -- sets the softness/hardness of the edge of the glow -- default is 12
  • Offset -- you can use this option to create spacing between the object and the glow. The default setting is 0 -- no offset

Exercise

  1. Create a blue square
  2. Create a glow
  3. Choose dark blue for glow color, 4 for width, 100% for contrast, 10 for softness and 10 for offset
  4. Compare your glow to sample 1 on the right -- does it look similar?

TIP: If you want to edit your effect, select your object (using the white arrow on the toolbar, if needed) and then click on the i in the blue dot on the effect menu
