Gail Nelson, Chief Executive Officer
Gail Nelson has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Carole Robertson Center for Learning since 1988. Prior to this appointment, she served seven years as the Associate/Administrative Director. As Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Nelson is responsible for oversight of all program operations, finances, resource development, grants management, program and administrative contract compliance, facility management, long-range planning, community advocacy, and public relations. She currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Illinois Action for Children and on Umoja Student Development Corporation’s Board of Directors. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Chicago Coalition of Site Administered Child Care Programs, Illinois Department of Human Service’s Child Care Development Advisory Council, and Strengthening Families Illinois’ Leadership Team and Professional Development Committee.
Ms. Nelson frequently offers consultation and technical assistance to other organizations and projects. Past service has involved Chicago Public Schools’ Early Childhood Task Force, Lawndale Service Scholars, North Lawndale Employment Network, the State of Illinois’ Early Learning Council, and the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. Ms. Nelson holds a B.A. from the University of Illinois and an M.A. from University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration.
