The volunteer opportunities at the Carole Robertson Center for Learning are endless! If you have a specific skill or interest and enjoy working with children, youth, or families, contact us and we will match you with a program that can meet your abilities and interests - whether it is on a temporary or ongoing basis.

Current ongoing volunteer programs include:
  • The Tutor/Mentor Program consists of several initiatives which promote leadership and civic responsibility among and between youth. The ultimate goal is to instill an ethic of service and responsibility in order to institutionalize community volunteerism and ownership. Volunteers are needed for tutoring children, ages 6 - 16, in basic reading or math skills, and mentoring youth, ages 12-17.
  • Our Foster Grandparents Program is an intergenerational program that seeks to replace age segregation and individual isolation with opportunities for friendship across the generations, linking community elders to new friends, and younger people to their living neighborhood history. Foster grandparents assist teachers with their daily activities in their classrooms.
  • The Center for Adult Learning provides educational opportunities to parents and other community residents. ESL, GED, and Basic Education classes remove the barriers to further education, enabling adults to achieve their academic goals. Volunteers work one-on-one and in small groups with adult learners in a classroom environment, providing crucial personalized support.

In addition to the above ongoing volunteer programs, we have several one-time volunteer needs, such as playground builds and landscaping. We also welcome the opportunity to work with you to develop workshops for children, youth or families in the area of your interest. Previous volunteer workshops have included, arts, crafts, photography, creative writing, and music.
